National Inspectorates - Hungary

In Hungary metropolitan and county government offices are the government’s territorial administrative agencies with general powers. The 20 Government Offices constituting the largest units of territorial public administration are located in the county seats, while in the case of the capital and Pest County in Budapest. District (metropolitan district) offices constitute the smallest units of territorial public administration, operating in 174 towns and in 23 districts in Budapest.

The authorities primarily responsible for the enforcement of REACH, CLP, BPR, POP and PIC are the Public Health Departments of the District Offices. In addition, further authorities have competency for other aspects of the chemical regulations.

The work of the chemical safety inspectors is coordinated at county level and supported by the Hungarian REACH, CLP and BPR National Competent Authorities and the Hungarian PIC Designated Authority for industrial chemicals operating within the National Center for Public Health and Pharmacy (NCPHP).

The company visits may take the form of both random and targeted checks. In case of non-compliance the inspectors can take a binding decision, impose a fine or suspend the non-compliant activity.
