ECHA's proposal to add new substances to the Authorisation List is now in public consultation

ECHA has launched a public consultation on its draft recommendation of new substances to be included in the Authorisation List. Comments can be submitted by 30 November 2014.

In parallel, ECHA facilitates a call by the European Commission on the possible socio-economic consequences of the inclusion of these substances in Annex XIV.

ePIC – a new IT-tool for exporters and importers of certain hazardous chemicals

The new ePIC tool will fully replace the European Commission tool, EDEXIM, which is currently used for operations under the Prior Informed Consent Regulation (PIC). ePIC enables exporters, importers, Member States, the European Commission, customs and ECHA to play their roles in managing the export and import of very hazardous chemicals.

New public consultation launched on identification of substances of very high concern

ECHA has launched a public consultation on ten proposals to identify new substances of very high concern (SVHCs). The deadline for submitting information is 16 October 2014.

New restriction Q&As (Annex XVII to REACH)

ECHA has prepared, in collaboration with the Commission services, both new and updated Questions and Answers (Q&As) on restrictions related to toys and childcare articles. They provide general definitions that apply for all restriction entries of Annex XVII to the REACH Regulation. In addition, clarifications are provided for phthalates restrictions.  The new and updated Q&As are: 748, 982, 983, 984 and 985.

The restriction Q&As provide guidance concerning the implementation of the restriction entries in Annex XVII to REACH.

Biocides Stakeholders' Day – from topical updates to case studies

24 September 2014, Helsinki

The event brings you the latest developments from the regulatory side of the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR), both from ECHA and the Commission as well as the latest news from industry, one year after the entry into operation of the BPR.

You will hear about the forthcoming revision of the Fee Regulation, national fees and relevant policy issues from Pierre Choraine, Biocides Team Coordinator at the European Commission and the impact of the BPR on the EU biocidal market from Sylvie Lemoine, the Director of Technical and Regulatory Affairs at A.I.S.E.

Other invited speakers include Ludger Grunwald, Manager of Regulatory Affairs at ECOLAB who will present an analysis of the benefits and risks of Union authorisation and Camelia Mihai, a Counsellor at CEFIC, speaking about product families. ePIC Industry Webinar – material available online

The webinar gives an overview of the ePIC tool used by industry to meet their obligations under the Prior Informed Consent Regulation. It covered basic aspects of the tool such as the interface, buttons, search functions and other features. The webinar provides a useful introduction to the new features of the tool, ahead of its launch on 2 September.
